Strawberry Point

Strawberry Point web page

Strawberry Point celebrates the town’s unique name by mounting a symbolic strawberry – known as the World’s Largest Strawberry – at the site of City Hall. Established in 1853, the name was given to the town by soldiers, traders and railroad workers who enjoyed the bountiful wild strawberries found along the trails and hillsides.
Come explore the history and charm of Northeast Iowa by visiting the Historic Franklin Hotel, established in 1854 and recognized on the National Registry of Historic Places. The Franklin Hotel invites you for an overnight stay, a delicious home cooked dinner, and the relaxing atmosphere in their lounge. During your stay visit the Wilder Museum, built with a bequest from Mary Gill Wilder, which houses a historical collection of 800 heirloom dolls and 40 hanging Victorian lamps. Step back in time to the early 1900’s with an old fashion Cherry or Vanilla coke at Strawberry Point Drug, featuring a soda fountain with a stained glass mirror and marble bar.
Drive through Backbone, Iowa’s first and largest state park, located 2 1/2 miles southwest of Strawberry Point. Named for its ridge, which resembles a huge backbone with boulders and rocky humps for the vertebrae, the park features trout streams, boat rentals, swimming, hiking trails, rappelling areas, camping, cabins and picnic areas. Nestled among the hills at the north entrance of Backbone, the Golf & Country Club welcomes the entire family to the friendly and accommodating golf course.
Join us the second weekend in June for our annual Strawberry Days Celebration, featuring a parade, carnival, rides, and entertainment, with complimentary strawberries & ice cream on Sunday afternoon. For you toe tapers, join us on the last full weekend in July for three days of Bluegrass, Country and Gospel music during our Annual Backbone Bluegrass Music Festival.
We welcome you to enjoy the many specialties that Strawberry Point has to offer. Further information available at www.strawberrypt.com or call 563-933-4417.
